Preparation for the hike:
May '03 - I learned about the trail while visiting the Wellsboro area. That weekend I visited Leonard Harrison State Park and walked the Turkey Path Trail in the Memorial Day pouring rain. I later purchased the trail guide. I ordered it by calling Pinecreek Outfitters.
June/July '03 - I returned to the area on the 4th of July to camp and had the opportunity to go to the Bark Pealers Convention at the PA Lumber Museum. Did some short hikes, with and without over night stays to include a portion of Section 8 of the Appalachian Trail with Nathan and Spot, Joseph E. Ibberson Conservation Area and Boyd Big Tree Conservation Area. I began an exercise regimen of walking, lifting weights and running every day
September '03 - Realized the tent I owned was too heavy and more than I needed for a solo hike so I purchased a Eureka Solitaire tent. I contacted the Tioga County DCNR and requested a camping permit (not required, but a good safety measure). I contacted Pinecreek Outfitters to arrange a ride to the Southern Terminus.
